This is the second post in a series on personal vision. To read the first one, go here.
The first
question to contemplate when we're figuring out our personal vision statement has
to do with identity -
"Who in the world am I anyway?"
Or better put - "Who has God created
me to be?"
As for me, you can call me "Princess
Nothing" if you like. I am a
beloved daughter of the King of the universe. All that I am is wrapped up in my
relationship to the King. Without that
relationship, I am nothing. This is who
God created me to be. He created me to
be in a love relationship with Him, to be empty of my human flesh, and to realize that
all that I am and all that I have to offer are nothing worthwhile without Him.
My identity is boiled down to this
essential. All the other roles that I
might play throughout my life are subservient to this one. I have lots of roles but these don't define
me at my core. I can't fail at being
Princess Nothing. I take this identity
into my roles hopefully. Because of my
relationship with the King, I am able to do everything through Christ who gives
me strength (Philippians 4:13). I can
embrace my role as a mom and, while I will have some failures at that, it
doesn't change who I am. I'm not less
beloved because of my failures nor more beloved because of my triumphs. Without the King to walk beside me in my roles,
I'm Nothing. If I try to do it on my own
(and I do), I will fail (and I do). The failure pushes me back to dependence on the
King, and my identity as Princess remains.
By the way, who are you?
Sincerely,
Princess
Nothing
