(posting on Wondering Wednesdays thoughts from my 2014 Bible Read-Thru)
When Keith challenged us to the four month Bible read through, he said for us to jot down some notes along the way, but don't all bogged down in deep study. We can do that later, but for now we're just reading the story through and picking out themes and writing down ideas that we might want to study later. Perhaps we'll ask a question or note something we don't remember noticing before. All this reading isn't just for the challenge to but to deepen relationship, so we're asking Jesus to speak to us in the midst of this reading and highlight what He wants to say.

I started reading on Dec 23rd, then skipped until the 27th, and that
when the daily adventure started. It has
been cool how my reading focus is different than sometimes. I'm not really concerned about "getting
something out of" every little passage I read. I'm thinking that the more familiar I am with
the whole story, the better I will be able to apply the parts. I'm not getting bogged down in the Levitical
law, but I'm reading it. I'm not
thinking hard right now about the parallel of the different offering with what
Christ did on the cross. I'm not try to
squeeze every drop of meaning out of the book.
I am reading it though and I figure God had a plan for it being there
and so I would also take it in and let God work it in me.
I'm using the chronological plan that Keith recommended and we
started off in Genesis. I was struck
once again with the hugeness of God. I
guess even though I don't believe in the "big bang" theory, I think
of the stars as huge fireballs (which is what I think they are!) and things
whirling though space. I think of
gravitational forces and spinning orbits of planets. In the midst of all this whirling and
swirling, The Book says that "God placed the stars" - This whole massive Milky Way and atmospheres -
I picture God picking up some stars and putting them in just the right
spot. Actually I can't picture it very
well because it seems almost impossible for anyone to place anything in space
like that. The thing is that God is
bigger than the Milky Way and He even placed it.

The other bigness item that struck me was when The Book mentions
that the "floodgates of the deep/sky were closed" when the flood of
Noah's time was over. The weather man
can't even predict the weather correctly so it's obvious that he can't control
it. I don't think of the rain or the
natural springs having some gate that might be opened or closed. However, here God closed the floodgates and
the land dried.
Life feels so out of control sometimes, but God is never out
of control. He holds it all. He sees it all. And He is working in and through it all. If He can place galaxies and open
or close waterworks, I suppose I can trust Him with my little life that He
created and then purchased with the blood of His Son.
Hoping you can find rest in the hugeness of God.
