God is Able...

I'm back to "Lord, help me stay in the war" mode.  I come here from time to time.  I come when I am faced with my weakness and don't know how to go on.  I also come here  when I hear stories of people in ministry that fall into sin or I see the way we are selfish and prone to pride within the church.  I've heard a few of these stories recently and it makes me sad.  I've been through some other similar stories, so it really doesn't shock me or shake my faith in God.  Sin isn't surprising... disappointing, but not surprising.  I trust that God is good, loving, and just more than I trust my ability to accurately see the circumstances around me that would somehow make God to be less or wrong. 

My hope is in Christ alone, not in the righteousness of man.  I want to reflect Jesus and walk in His ways and that most assuredly is my goal and prayer.  I know that I will not do it perfectly.  I know that those whom I respect will not do it perfectly.  This is what brings me again to the song and prayer, "Lord help me stay in the war."  I will not stay engaged in the battle for holiness or mercy or justice or love without the strength that God provides.  My only hope is that Jesus keeps me in the war.  There is a promise that Jesus said to the disciples about His sheep that know His voice - "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand." ~John 10:29.  I fall on this grace, that God is able to keep me.  This song has also been on my mind much lately.  So I'll leave you with this and pray that, by grace, you also will stay near to Jesus, stay engaged in the war for our souls, and rely on His ability.
